I'm raising a couple of bookworms
I want both my children to love the magic of books. I love the magic of books. So, we have made it one of our priorities to introduce them to reading at a very young age.
When Nolan was just a few weeks old, screaming constantly, the one thing I could do to quiet him was put him in his swing and read to him. At the time I didn't have any children's books, so I read from the Children's Bible. The one that Jake had when he was a kid. Of course later, we got baby books and toddler books and started reading him those.
When Charlie was born, I thought it might be a challenge to give him as much book time as we did Nolan. But, it wasn't. The only different is I used to get some down time during the bed time routine and now I have to participate. Still it's important. So, we do it. Every night.
And what has it accomplished so far? Two children that love trips to the library and will go to bed with no arguement as long as they get their stories. Story time lasts about a half hour in our house.
Oh yes, this has also happened. I now have a little boy that prefers to sleep with a Curious George book rather than a stuffed animal or a blanket.
